Important Tips on Piano Lessons

Music is a very important part of our lives. Not much more than our ears, please - is an integral part of human development.
Several years ago, there was an experiment conducted by scientists at the University of California at Irvine in 1993. (published in Nature) had college students listen to Mozart Sonata for two Pianos in D Major, a relaxation tape or silence. Immediately following these sessions, students took a test of spatial reasoning (the ability to put puzzles) and student performance improved dramatically after listening. The reason is because music and spatial abilities share the same pathways in the brain.

Another experiment was carried out subsequently by researchers at the Appalachian State University and the researchers were successful and the connection of music to promote the "brain power".
Giving pre-school children (ages 3-4 years. Antiguos) training for 8 months. The children were divided into 4 groups: keyboard lessons, singing lessons, computer classes and no experience. After 8 months of this treatment, children were tested on their ability to put together puzzles (spatial-temporal reasoning) and recognize shapes (spatial reasoning recognition) and the results were amazing! They realized that only children who had taken the keyboard has the experience improvement in spatial-temporal test. (Children do not yet show any change in spatial recognition.)

Another interesting observation I made is the connection between the medical profession and the profession of music - a vast majority of MD's are classically trained musicians! I found a lot and have asked them the same question - how to make the connection between the doctor and the music - and the response I've had is that they are very complicated and require a little focus and mathematical thinking in many directions than once. Is achieved by many years of training in either and / or in both fields, for the same reason - to enhance each other. So for them - the similarity in brain function and focus is clear and useful for physicians and musicals. It will be interesting to see the results of further study in this area. Currently, there is no conclusive scientific proof of the relationship between doctor and Musical.

Now - 5 Tips for piano lessons!

1) Interest:
Evaluate your child's interest. Is this something she likes - or is your dream? If training for classical piano - then the student should be changed to an acoustic piano. In my experience as a piano teacher, I realized that a spinet piano (those with low back), unless it is given as a gift, should not be purchased. It would be better to buy a "Vertical", which is a Baby Grand Piano, but instead of the strings are horizontal to vertical. The reason is that the action of the keys is technically much better for the student by the hand and is substantially better sound to the ear.
3) Teacher:
Questions and get feedback from others about their teachers. Check the background of the teacher. Where does education, how long they have been teaching, where to teach, what are your surroundings like? Ask students how current teachers are patient and how they feel during the lesson. You must have a very good idea about how to master the current students are progressing. The master of the mix with your child's personality. Remember, this is a choice! Most people are not comfortable performing in front people. When I say of performing, such as an instrument, or singing, or acting, I mean more than just knowing how to do well at your chosen craft, I mean doing it well and in front of people. It’s the “in front of people” part that gets us every time. How many of us sing like a bird in the shower but then when people are watching we can’t carry a note. Here are three steps to start you on the road to comfort (never complete) when called on to shine.

1. Don’t neglect to practice. Whether you sing or play an instrument practice is the key to being relaxed. The more familiar you are with what you are performing, the less anxiety you will have about messing up.

2. Don’t back up. Piano teaches pass this on all the time. If you mess up in the middle, or any place in your piece, don’t back up and repeat the offending passage. Keep going. Chances are your audience didn’t even notice.

3. Try not to be critical of your technical skill. Focus more on your overall performance. How does it sound as a whole? If you’re a pianist and you worry during your piece about your fingering then you’re ignoring the song and how it sounds. Worry about technicalities when you practice. Which should be often.

With time playing in front of and for other people will come much easier. You'll be a natural. So use every opportunity to show your stuff!

Music About Dance

While we all know that Jazz is as much a style of music as it is a style of dance, many people may not realize the importance that dance has played in music. There are many songs out there that mention the importance of dancing and yet we as a society seem to have forgotten the importance or limited that importance to a certain age group. Once we age it seems that we forget not only how to dance but also the intrinsic importance of dancing as well.

"I Hope You Dance" is only one of many songs that relate the important role that dancing plays in feeding the human soul. If one thing in life is important for all, that one thing would be to dance whenever the opportunity arises. You never know when you will run out of opportunities to dance or find that you've squandered so many of them away. Take them as they come and your life will be filled with much greater joy than you may ever realize. Despite many other songs out there that may convey the message, there are very few that say it more concisely than this particular song. "When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you'll dance".

Garth Brooks is another musician that had an excellent commentary on dance. His song "The Dance" chronicles not necessarily the importance of dancing but of participating.
